About Airdrie

Founded in the early 1800s, Airdrie began as a railway village along the Edmonton-Calgary line. Today, Airdrie still has retains a small-town feel even with it's city designation, attracting young couples and growing families. In addition to its tight-knit community, Airdrie also has big-city amenities, entertainment facilities, and shopping destinations, ensuring residents aren't dependent on nearby Calgary for their recreation and services.

The city's residential areas have grown hand-in-hand with its thriving business sector. The city is home to a large number of industries in the business community including: construction, manufacturing, transportation, and logistics. Airdrie also has a booming service economy, providing numerous retail outlets and services to a trading area of over 60,000 people.

Airdrie is home to excellent schools, and is serviced by both public and Catholic school boards. Providing quality education for over 3,500 students, families can also choose one of several French Immersion schools in the area. Nearby Calgary provides multiple post-secondary options, including the University of Calgary.

Parks & Recreation

Airdrie has over 570 acres of parkland and 36 kilometres of paved multi-use pathways and trails ideal for walking, cycling, blading and jogging. Popular parks include Nose Creek Park and East Lake.

In addition to Airdrie's parks and green spaces, the city also has an off-leash canine park, a large BMX track, a splash park, outdoor skating rinks, outdoor athletic parks, sports fields, and playgrounds. Local recreational facilities include Plainsman arena, Twin Arena, and Genesis Place, which includes an indoor running track, pool, and two field houses. The city's recreational opportunities, proximity to the the city of Calgary, and easy access to the Rocky Mountains make it an ideal location to raise a family.

The city also has popular annual events to bring people together and encourage community involvement. Airdrie's Canada Day parade is popular among residents, and the Airdrie Pro Rodeo brings over 10,000 spectators every summer. Also popular during the summer is the Airdrie Regional Air Show, where you can watch the world famous Canadian Snowbirds perform amazing acrobatic stunts. Around Christmas, Airdrie is known for having one of Canada's top 10 holiday light shows in Nose Creek Park, with a million dollars worth of holiday displays lighting up the park every night.
